I stayed in Delhi for past four years and shifted to Oxford in last week of Septemeber 2006. Delhi was too big to understand, Oxford is too small to understand. I had nice memories of my stay in a medium town Ranchi-capital of newly formed state Jharkhand, I enjoyed living there. I dont remember I ever thought about the city/town from the perspective of its size. May be I wasn't supposed/made to think like that, but after my education in planning, the city size has become very fancy thing for me.Basically it has changed my perspective to look city through attributes like its size, infrastructure, landuse, built-up structures, cityscape, Roads, Design, services and amenities, urban management......etc.etc.....
Oxford is a very small town with population of 1.3 lakhs-a large colony of Delhi. If I relate the city size with the quality of living with focus on factors like accessibility to amenities and uses of services, Oxford is too good to miss in a lifetime. Even in India, towns like Pondicherry have its own small world, one can find everything atmost a miles away. Living in such small-size town makes one's life very smooth and easier. That's my personal experience. I would love to own a house in any such mini-world. Such city provides space to everyone:-- space to shop, space to relax, space to party, space to study, space to socialise......every kind of space...in totality.
I believe the world comprising thousands of such small cities/towns would be really very peaceful and an amazing place to realize life and associated aspirations. I pray that everyone gets a chance to live atleast for a month/year in any mini-world like Oxford...Cambridge.... Pondicherry...Ranchi......... ............................
I love my "Small Oxford" the mini-world!!!!!!!! (www.oxfordcityguide.com/)
